Cotton as one of the most popular types of yarn

31-01-2023
At Polystar LLC you will find threads and yarns of different composition and of wide range of colors. Among the most popular types of yarn, cotton occupies an important place. Many types of fabric for sewing clothes, bed linen, and decorative textiles are made from cotton. Our range includes 100% pure (undyed) cotton, 100% dyed cotton, cotton-acrylic 50/50, cotton-acrylic regenerated yarn, cotton-polyester regenerated yarn, fantasy yarns with added cotton.

What is cotton in general, what is its history and benefits. Let's take a closer look in our article.

Cotton is one of the oldest natural materials. According to various sources, cotton was first used in Ancient Egypt approximately 12 thousand years BC. e. The first of the cotton products found by archaeologists, dated to 5800 BC. e., discovered in Mexico. However, the official homeland of cotton is considered to be India, because the first mentions of woven fabrics and their sale are related to this country.

Cotton is a textile fiber of plant origin. The fiber is the hairs on the seeds of cotton, a bushy plant of the genus Gossypium. This is the most important natural fiber used in textile production, it is the basis of light industry. Annually, more than 25 million tons of cotton are produced in the world in about 80 countries.

Why does humanity value cotton?
• Availability. Cotton (and fabrics made of it - calico, calico, poplin, percale, twill, batiste) is one of the most affordable materials for the production of goods and clothing for general use.
• High hygroscopicity. A cotton product in conditions of high air humidity can absorb about 30% of moisture and remain dry to the touch!
• Practicality. Being as natural as possible, cotton products get dirty easily. But, at the same time, they are easy to wash and it is easy enough to return them to their previous appearance.
• Resistance to moths and other pests. Unlike wool, cotton is "vulnerable" only at the flowering stage (then the weevil rushes to feast on it). Insects

In the form of tissue, it does not represent any "food" interest for any of the existing insects.
However, like any other natural fabric, cotton has a number of disadvantages. It:
• Wear and tear. Cotton fibers (both by themselves and in the product) are quite strong. But they are not very elastic, so the fabric wears out over time.
• Instability to light. It is not recommended to dry clothes made of natural cotton under the influence of direct sunlight. As a result, the fabric quickly turns yellow and cannot be ironed.
• Changeability. Due to the low elasticity of the fibers, the products wrinkle quickly.
• Shrinkage. Knitwear made of pure cotton can stretch in width, or "sit down" in length.

However, the disadvantages of cotton are not so terrible, and you can get rid of them. Everything changes when natural threads are combined with synthetic ones. When combining cotton with acrylic, the thread not only retains all its positive properties, but also gets rid of its disadvantages. The thread becomes stronger, does not burn out, does not shrink. Things made of cotton-acrylic yarn do not wrinkle, look neat and hold their shape well, and in addition, they are warmer, since acrylic is considered to be artificial wool. Polyester added to cotton softens the effect of wrinkling and shrinkage, and viscose or silk in cotton products gives things greater strength and shine.

Our managers will gladly provide you all the detailed information about each of the types of threads and their wide color palette and help you in choosing and placing an order!
